“Wearing This Gear” (2019)

“Wearing this Gear” is from an original musical entitled “Bounded by the Sidelines,” with script by Kate Herzlin. It features Joni, a high school junior who decides to start an all-gender football team. She sneaks into her school at night to steal uniforms to use for her team, and she comes upon the uniform her father wore when he played football for the school. She feels empowered as she tries the uniform on herself, and she sings about how this moment brings her closer to her two biggest heroes: her father and Joan of Arc. Performed by Julia DeGruchy.
